Solano Black Wall Street

History

The idea for the Solano Black Wallstreet began in the wake of the horrific George Floyd incident and during the challenging times of the pandemic. It was during this period that K Patrice Williams, the founder, was approached by community leaders Dr. Frances McCollough, Elissa Shanks Stewart, and A Marie Young. They recognized the need for a comprehensive Solano Black Business Directory and asked K Patrice to create one.
The task of identifying and locating black-owned small businesses in Solano County and determining their service areas was challenging. However, K Patrice was determined to make a difference. She started by inviting black business owners to join the online directory and encouraged them to post their promotions and events. As a result, the directory began to gain traction, and grow.
During the pandemic, she dedicated her business and professional acumen to an audio social media site called Clubhouse. Similar to a business conference, she spent countless hours listening to subject matter experts and learning about various topics such as credit, business credit, grant writing, operations, human resources, tax, and bookkeeping. She also had the opportunity to speak with Elease Cheek, a thought partner and the then President of the Solano Black Chamber, who provided valuable insights and guidance. K Patrice decided that Solano Black Wallstreet would incorporate education and training to empower Solano County black business owners and black-led non-profits to thrive individually and in trusted, vetted joint ventures.
Solano Black Wall Street
In 2020, K Patrice Williams founded the Solano Black Business Directory on Facebook Groups. Over the past three years, the group has organically grown to 1,100 members, and posts within the group receive 50-250 views. This growth is a testament to the importance and value of connecting and supporting black-owned businesses in Solano County.
In November 2023, K Patrice Williams took a significant step forward by renaming the Solano Black Business Directory to Solano Black Wall Street. This renaming reflects the vision and aspirations of the community. To celebrate this milestone, a launch event will be held on November 24 at Marina Lounge in Suisun City, which is owned by Elease Cheek. Marina Lounge is the largest black-owned event space and bar in Solano County, making it the perfect venue to showcase and support black vendors and service providers.
The journey of Solano Black Wallstreet is a testament to the resilience, determination, and collaborative spirit of the black community in Solano County. Together, we can continue to build a legacy of success, economic prosperity, and empowerment for generations to come.
